yeah they dont even give a shit. the only people who do are the ones who are speaking over them and think they can speak for them while not even being in that group
Avatar
Well even though tulpamancy isnt strictly a buddhist thing a lot of people say it “belongs” to that religion since thats a big part of its origin, right?
Avatar
thats like saying the first group to use imagining objects in your mind in their religious practice now have exclusive rights to the use of that basic function in the brain. its stupidity.

Tulpamancy as it’s practiced online isn’t Buddhist.

At least, not exclusively.

Im not saying it is

Tulpamancy is a word coined online, and not by Buddhists

And is fundamentally far different than this.

just call it something different for yourself, it's not even inspired by buddhist methods
6:36 PM
calling it tulpa is not appropriation, it's just stupid imo
6:36 PM
but it's hardwired in people's brains now

As i said before i dont really know much about it, these are just connections im trying to make myself

You can call it whatever you want, tbf. Willing a being into life isn’t tied to one practice.

there is no connections other than the word we use being inspired by their word

Even amongst other religions and cultures, there are multiple examples of similar practices across the world.

Nobody “owns” being plural, essentially.
6:37 PM
There are just multiple ways of going about it.

the terms tulpa and tulpamancy are a little bit confusing for people getting into it and discovering it on the internet... fact is, the label was just picked by people who thought it sounded cool. It's an aesthetic personally I think a more neutral term would get better traction and be less confusing, because I am convinced that lots more people have tulpas than actually know about the word tulpamancy... it's an effect that happens to a lot of people and that a lot of people independently discover

i would say it's more the word people should be concerned about since the word comes from buddhism but i think it's kinda too late to choose another one since everybody already uses "tulpa" so

Oooh so I'm guessing your appearance was unplanned/unintentional (mine was)? For my system, we decided to look into tulpamancy 2.5 yrs ago to see if it was similar to what we were doing, and it turns out there are many people with similar experiences

Scrul’pa is the Buddhist practice.
Lucilyn: Sprul pa (edited)
7:01 PM
Nirmāṇakāya (Chinese: 應身; pinyin: yīngshēn; Tibetan: སྤྲུལ་སྐུ་, tulku, Wylie: sprul sku) is the third aspect of the trikāya and the physical manifestation of a Buddha in time and space. In Vajrayāna it is described as "the dimension of ceaseless manifestation."
7:02 PM
but, the actual existing sprul pa stuff has NOTHING to do with tulpamancy at all, nor the term tulpa
7:02 PM
we got the term tulpa from Alexandra David-Neel's translation of sprul-pa, but the sect of tibetan buddhism she was learning from seems like it doesn't exist/didn't catch on
7:02 PM
the stuff she wrote about doesn't sound like what you'll read on wikipedia^ here

tulpamancy has NOTHING to do with Buddhism except that vaguely inspired-by word (though no tibetan buddhists would recognize the word "tulpa" because Neel basically created it herself as a translation)
7:04 PM
anyways, what Rusty said
Avatar
KiTTiKaTTy( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧ BOT 5/29/2023 7:04 PM
tulpa and sprul-pa are just different phonetical writing of the same word, and tulpa is closer to how it is actually read

Lucilyn: no one can claim a basic practice humans are capable of as theirs (edited)
7:04 PM
plurality is just something human brains are capable of
7:04 PM
it doesn't have to be a disorder or a religious practice or whatever
7:04 PM
(but it can be)

"tulpa" is not a buddhist term
Avatar
it seems to be pretty far removed from the actual word so i'm not too worried about it it's just a word with an origin atp
